What the CAS appointment is

For the US visa you have two appointments. The CAS appointment is the first: at an Applicant Service Center they take your fingerprints and a photo. The second is the interview at the United States consulate.

Why they move together

Because the CAS appointment has to stay before the interview, the portal reschedules both at the same time: when you change the date of one, the date of the other changes too.
